Nu Gui Concept
Alright, it took me a couple of hours to finish post working this one and I was just dying to show her off FINALLY! And yeah this is a character that took me forever to finish working on because of some issues in her breast and then some other errors that kept showing up every time I tried to get the lighting to cast properly on her body to avoid that awful washed out look, so after the 20th retry I got the right look. Now for all of those that don't know or who haven't seen some of my darker characters yet. This one happens to be Nu Gui, there isn't much history behind this Chinese supernatural figure, I did some research and frankly the information I came across really wasn't enough for me to use to make use of her purpose in my story, so I have decided to create my own history for her including the small piece of info I discovered about the real Nu Gui mythological ghost.
Nu Gui is known as the Ghost in Chinese culture/mythology that has committed suicide due to some form of injustice such as being sexual abused, tormented in some way whether its physical or mentally. And of course she wears a red dress and returns to seek revenge against those that she holds responsible for her death.
However, Yurei Seed is a story filled with a lot of supernatural characters and figures. Most of them aren't very popular but have very strong backgrounds with the little information provided, of course the names don't always reflect the actual figures. For instance I have a character named Bunraku but she isn't a Puppet like in Japanese theater Bunraku is a form of puppetry theater. And then I have another character named "BAKU" Baku means Ghost That Devours Nightmares. Of course Baku in my story doesn't get rid of Nightmares, it's the complete opposite.
Anyway, Nu Gui was the very first Yurei design I came up with. Her textures compliment the lighting quite well. Her full figure body also looks great in her dress.
So, when I was working on Nu Gui the idea required some material reading to no bitter end. I had to read books, to make sure that my character was completely different and wasn't some cheap knock off of something someone had already seen or read before. I needed a character that would bring out a very disturbing presence in my story unlike anything you've ever seen. Nu Gui is the third most powerful figure in Yurei Seed and is known as "The Care Taker." Her goal is to serve the Sisterhood, eventually she becomes the right hand Maiden to Baku when the Sisterhood is overthrown.
(SPOILERS COMING UP, Explaining Different Background Story Ideas about her).
She is first encountered in a hospital setting, before she ended up like this with the disfigured facial features, torn flesh, etc. Well she was a practical nurse that took care of sick children, a very beautiful one at that.
Unfortunately there was one child that often made fun of her, then one day he tossed acid all over her face after a dare which scarred her for life. Lets not forget, the fact she was also a victim of being bullied through out her entire adult hood and teen years that followed.
So how did she actually die? I won't reveal this information yet. Maybe in a chapter overview or in her character bio which I will create sometime soon.
Likewise, Nu Gui adds tension in Yurei Seed. She does a lot of disgusting things to those she stalks and is never seen as threatening to Irene but unlike Bakura who usually terrorizes her in limited ways. Nu Gui does it in various ways. The first few encounters you see her as a nurse who seems very happy and cheerful. But when the acid burns her face, and her husband starts abusing and mistreating her because of it? She feels less beautiful, and far less attractive compared to ordinary women.
Then she meets Baku Saejima that promises to restore her good looks under one condition. I wont reveal that either. For those who are eager to know a little bit more about her creation process. Well, the character was definitely inspired by Asian mythology, not just Nu Gui. There are some Japanese ghost figures that I used to build this character up as well. But she has a different form of personality, not exactly the same as the other ghostly figures you will encounter.
And believe it or not, she was originally suppose to be an Asian Music star. But let's be honest here, I was only going to do this because I thought the character would gain more attention. The original concept for her was that she is this famous Chinese singer. And one of her fans became highly obsessed with her and have always wanted to be with her romantically.
So, when she rejects him, this causes him to become angry, then he eventually abducts her and tries to rape her, you know force her to marry him and all of that jazz. And the way she earned her damages from that little scenario happened after she tried to escape him while he's speeding down the rail road and she manages to escape only to end up rolling out of the vehicle like a rag doll onto the train tracks. And then? Well I'm sure you knows what happens after that, so she dies from her injuries and comes back as Nu Gui and becomes the stalker of her fan.
I've had many ideas planned for how this character ends up as Nu Gui including a story about a girl who was obsessed with her own body and could never stop admiring herself in front of a mirror. Every man that had seen her, wanted to be her lover, and as you know when men are involved? Well a few jealous women feared her because she was a very beautiful woman , they had to get rid of her.
All of these ideas I had I could never truly decide on an official backstory. I'm not even going along with the Nurse one. I have yet to decide, but once her biography is finished? I will choose how she ended up this way then. For now, this is just some info for you to feed yourselves with until the biography is complete. Then you can get all the information about this character. Keep in mind, Biographies contain full Spoilers.
Also please ignore the shadows, I was too tired to remove them but I have a second render of this, though its sort of lower quality. But it doesn't have the shadows. I figured no one would notice, I mean concepts aren't intended to be perfect anyway. Its just a chance for me to demonstrate the process of creating the characters, talking a little about their personalities, and so on and so forth.
