Dancing into the center spotlight he came, a tumbling flurry of blades and shimmering color. "Hailing from the sands of the most exotic lands," bellowed the Ringmaster, "we give you the man named for his blade, that partner in his death defying dance of thrilling amazement: the Saracen!" The little girl squeezed her mothers hand and nuzzled closer to her, wondering how mommy could be so transfixed by the acrobatic little man in the iridescent, loose pants and vest, but as the sounds of drums and sitars filled the tent and his performance pressed on, even she, in her fear, fell to the hypnotic and deadly beauty of the show.
