Passiflora, the passion flowers or passion vines, is a genus of about 500 species of flowering plants, the namesakes of the family Passifloraceae. They are mostly vines, with some being shrubs, and a few species being herbaceous.

This bundle of Twelve SolidGrowth Passion Flower plants comes in three of the most well known species, with flowering and foliage plants in various habits for each one.
With this great bundle you can either place your plants directly on trees, trellis or just about anything you want to wreath in lush foliage and exotic blooms, or you can use them in the ecopainter, with stunning results!

Passion flowers are found through out the world except in Antarctica and Africa. Many species have been naturalized by man, far outside their natural habitats.
many species of passion flower are valued not only for their fruit but also their medicinal properties :-P. incarnata (maypop) leaves and roots have a long history of use among Native Americans in North America and were adapted by the European colonists. The fresh or dried leaves of maypop are used to make a tea that is used to treat insomnia, hysteria, and epilepsy, and is also valued for its analgesic properties.

In Mythology the flowers of the Passifolora have been said to symbolise the passion of christ :- The pointed tips of the leaves were taken to represent the Holy Lance. The tendrils represent the whips used in the flagellation of Christ.
The ten petals and sepals represent the ten faithful apostles (excluding St. Peter the denier and Judas Iscariot the betrayer).
The flower's radial filaments, which can number more than a hundred and vary from flower to flower, represent the crown of thorns.
The chalice-shaped ovary with its receptacle represents a hammer or the Holy Grail
The 3 stigmas represent the 3 nails and the 5 anthers below them the 5 wounds (four by the nails and one by the lance).
The blue and white colors of many species' flowers represent Heaven and Purity. Whatever the Passion flower symbolic meaning, it remains a worthy part of any digital plant collection for its exotic flowers and lush foliage will add a touch or realism and beauty to any scene!
